Serra do Padeiro, March 5th 2024

Dear __________,

The mantle is a sacred entity that is central to Tupinambá society and linked to the world of the enchanted. Crafted by my own hands with the Tupinambá Community of Serra do Padeiro and the Indigenous Land of Tupinambá de Olivença, the mantle is our ancestor, our ambassador, and our spokesperson.

Starting April 7, 2024, the mantle will be in Italy to join the Brazilian representation at the Hãhãwpuá Pavilion during the 60th Biennale di Venezia.

By the will of the mantle and the guidance of the enchanted, it will be available to visit some institutions with the aim of reuniting with its relatives, such as clubs, flutes, hatchets, as well as other mantles – our ancestors that are kept in European collections. The visits can weave new dialogues and possible alliances in our struggle for rights, recognition, and the demarcation of our territory.

We are writing to inquire if you would like to receive a visit from the mantle in your institution, and what support conditions you could offer to make this visit happen, such as transportation and accomodation for the artist and other representatives of the Tupinambá people.

If interested and available, please let us know as soon as possible, se we can start making arrangements. Your response will be included in the documentation of the mantle’s travels.

Sincerely,

Glicéria (Célia) Tupinambá
